Family Name Rustic Bracket Board Sign

wedding gift

The last few months I have been helping a good friend plan and organize for her daughters wedding.  During all of the planning and crafting, I got a good feel for her daughters style.  As I helped with several decorations I knew that making them a Family name sign would be perfect!  My first thought was to use some old boards or pallet wood.  As I began looking through my wood hoard, I remembered that last year I had put together about 18 of these bracket boards!  I am crazy)  Sometimes when I get in the groove of a project, I get carried away!  If saws, equipment, materials and time are in place then sometimes I just go for it.  I have loved the shape of these brackets for years, I am hoping they will stay trendy for a while longer.  I was so happy during my search for wood to remember these fun boards.  I pulled one out and they are just the perfect size so, I applied a dark walnut stain and let it cure overnight.  Then using my personal cutting machine, I typed in the name and wording to create a template.  I cut the template out of a heavy cardstock and then taped it into place on the bracket board.  Next I used some what wall paint and sponge brush to paint the wording onto the board.  I pulled the template off of the board before the paint was completely dry.  I have found removing the template before it is dry, gives less bleeding of paint on to the project.  I let the painted name dry completely and then used my electric sander to rough it up.

I hope the happy new couple will enjoy this sign in their home for many years to come.
