New year’s resolutions

I am so sick of the same old crappy lousy horrible stupid resolution to lose weight.. I mean COME ON I set that goal EVERY single year & every single year I end up the same weight at the end of the year. (give or take a pound or two) Besides I am tired of looking at all the anorexic models with their skinny little bird legs.. THAT IS NOT REALITY.. My reality is that I love food!

The first 5 months last year I hit the gym HARD I exercised 5 days a week for an hour every day. I was up to running 3 miles a day (not walking yes running!) But after 5 months the scale only budged 6 lbs. So I basically gave up 5 months into the year on my new year’s resolution because of pure frustration.

Since then I really got thinking & decided when I rang in the new year I was going to try something different. A goal that I could keep. SO my goal this year… Drum roll… was to see how many new recipes I could try. I love recipe books. I have a fettish for them. My previous mother in law knows this so every time their ward does cook books she is always making sure she gets me one. Nothing beats a ward cookbook with all the simple recipes made with ingredients I actually have in my pantry. My mom also got me hooked on the Gooseberry Christmas book series & gave me an awesome one this year for Christmas. I love these books!!

Anyways, so my goal is not to gain weight but to try new things. Maeli helped me kick this off by picking out the first recipe to try. It was out of this cute little “mermaid under the sea” cookbook my mom bought her.

We tried a slushy type drink it had Raspberry sherbet, 7up, Whipped topping & berries. It was simple yet delicious!
Here we all are sampling the tasty treat.

Getting a brain freeze.

I have also tried a few other recipes I have made cherry pie before but not this recipe.

Chex/grahm sweet mix.

I have probably 5 or 6 crock pot cookbooks because after working all day I love to come home to dinner already done. I have made all sorts of things in the crock pot including cake. The crock pot cake recipe was sugar free so my family turned their noses up at it. My sister Jeralee even got me a diabetic cookbook to help me watch my blood sugar levels. I have made a few recipes out of that cookbook & none of my family can tell any difference if I don’t tell them.

It has been a lot of fun trying to figure out new recipes. Maeli has about 15 that she wants to try stacked up for me already. Tonight’s recipe is rice pudding. I bought the “special” rice & we will have to let you know how it turns out. Oh by the way, I am not looking to be the next chef on the cooking channel like my neice Charlise so don’t get your hopes up that I am going to have some slow roasted prime rib 7 course meal on here. (just making sure we are all clear on that one!)

Good for you Avry! I think that is so great! I haven’t quite gotten to New Year’s Resolutions yet. Maybe I should take my Christmas decorations down first… Love ya,
    Misty

  • LIFE IS GOOD!

You Go Girl! LOL! I hear you, my biggest trial in life is FOOD also. It gets boring fast when you eat the same thing over and over. It looks like I need to make some aprons.

Geez sister! Cut yourself some slack on not losing much weight last year. With the thyroid issues you have and trying to get the your numbers right, it would put anyone’s metabolism at a stand still!

I love food… I loved your pictures. I loved this entry. Pretty funny.

That is a great goal. I love food, but hate to cook.

So I would love to hear – on a weekly basis, what new recipe you tried that week, the recipe, and how it turned out and if you would do it again.

    Love ya sis!

Avry, I like your new Years Resolution. I also have a thing for recipe books, but my new favorite is allrecipes.com. You can find ANYTHING on there. I started printing them out & keeping them in a binder. It's also great because you can read reviews from people who have made the recipes for tips & advice. Hey, I think you should post recipes & reviews on your blog, but I know you're a busy woman.

Steve probably wishes that was my resolution. I am in such a cooking rut, and have been forever!! It is hard when you have picky eaters. Lt me know if you try any easy recipes that you just have to pass along! I love food too!!!

lol…I so LOVE FOOD too!! lol Hence why I was as large as I was! lol But I have learned to eat healthier even if I still eat what I want. ANYWAY, sorry for that tangent, I have that same Halloween cookbook! lol And I get the gooseberry emails, but have not gotten one of their actual cookbooks, I would like to but then I never do. Crockpots are awesome…here is a cool blog with 365 crockpot recipes on it….she used her crockpot every day of the year for the whole year (some are not meals, but still good uses). http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ She did it all of last year and although she is not doing it this year, she is keeping the blog up. Some really yummy recipes on there (but try not to use the footbath one! lol)
