My 33rd Birthday
I celebrated my 33rd Birthday on Saturday January 24th. It was somewhat of a crazy weekend.
Justin announced to me on Thursday night that he was “taking care of dinner” & that we would be celebrating my Birthday that night because our kids would be gone to their other parents over the weekend. It is very rare that Justin cooks so I was excited to see what he was serving up.
Not long after I walked in the door from Maeli’s violin lesson I got a phone call from my brother Jason saying my mom had been in an accident up near Tremonton. Being the closest in distance to her I jumped in the car & took off to see if she was okay. It was a good thing Justin made dinner that night!
The weather was horrible with downpour rain & freezing roads. My mom had slid off the road & rolled her car twice. I got bits and pieces from my dad & brother until she finally called. Luckily she wasn’t hurt but the car had a lot of damage. My mom is a very strong person & knowing her she was more worried about the items in the car than she was about herself.
My little sister Tiffany and her family moved to Utah a few months ago & my mom was bringing down to them what was left in storage. This included a lot of memorabilia (Missionary letters, childhood toys, pictures etc) Some of it was thrown from the vehicle when my mom rolled so she was frantically picking it up off the highway. When I got to my mom I knew she had been crying a lot & looking at the vehicle was a bit of a reality check of how bad it really was.
THE PICTURES DON’T DO IT JUSTICE. These pictures were taken in the dark with a down pour rain. The roof is bent back above the driver door but it doesn’t look like it.
I am so grateful that my mom was wearing her seatbelt. One week before this my neighbor across the street was in an accident in which he rolled the vehicle and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. He was thrown from the vehicle which resulted in his passing. For me after knowing my neighbor had died this way only a week before made me a little more sensitive to my mom. I am sure my older sister with the “super cop” husband has seen & heard a lot worse but for me it was my mom, and a little closer to home. I am just glad she is okay. Once we got home we set out to saving my little sisters memories. As you can see in the pictures my whole floor was covered in dripping wet letters that we were drying out to save from bleeding on to one another.
Here you can see what my house looked like after the wreck with drying everything out. We are still finding pieces of glass in my carpet.
The kids were all in bed and I had missed my little Birthday party. Thank goodness we rescheduled for Monday night (tonight)
Friday I got up & headed in to work while Maeli stayed home with my mom. While at work Justin sent me these beautiful flowers (I love this man!!)
Later that night we went to dinner with my parents, my sister Tiffany, her husband & their two boys & my brother Jason. We went to Red Lobster & got a little goofy during dinner
Tiffany after eating shrimp!
My mom acting goofy & my dad picking the crab out of his teeth! hhaha love you guys!
They sang Happy Birthday to me & my sister Tiffany & gave us ice cream
Saturday morning my parents headed home & I slept in. Once I got up and going Justin gave me a gift card to Massage Envy because I love a good body massage then we headed to Ihop for some Breakfast. We spent the afternoon shopping at the mall & Justin was awesome while I bought myself some clothes.
Saturday evening we put on our lounge pants, crawled into bed at around 6:30 p.m. & got caught up on our episodes of The office, Grey’s Anatomy, and American Idol. We ate popcorn in bed (which I have never done) and got sick on Dove Chocolates. (I love that Justin will dive in on my endulgences with me) It was a relaxing & quiet Birthday. I will blog later about the Birthday party my kids are doing for me tonight!

a perfect birthday where you didn’t have to worry about being a parent that day. Sounds good to me!
Dove Chocolates always remind me of Maeli. There was a guy in our ward that would hand them out last summer. She got hooked on Dove chocolates, although she pronounced them like “I dove into the pool.” I got a kick out of everytime she said that.
I had some Dove chocolates over the weekend as well.. Nummy.

I’m so glad your mom is okay. My sister got into an accident a few months ago and it just totally freaks you out, doesn’t it!
Happy Birthday!!!!! The flowers are awesome, and what could be better than Dove chocolates and Grey’s Anatomy while snuggling in bed? Awesome!!

I am so glad your mother is alright. What a blessing!
Happy late Birthday!!!! What a wonderful husband you have. I gave up on Grey’s this season, but when I used to watch it, Steve would just make fun of it the entire time. He would however eat chocolate with me 🙂

I am so glad your mom is ok. It is a realaity check for me when I see the same car that I drive has been in an accident.Sometimes in my big old car I feel too safe. I am just sorry the reminder had to be your moms accident. Your birthday sounds like the best. Justin is a gem! Popcorn in bed sounds cozy, I must try that sometime!
