Make it yourself Candleabra
Do you ever find something that you really like and really want but just cannot afford it or cannot justify paying a large price on it? I do that all the time. I will walk into a store and see something I really want then find myself saying “I can make that” and I would say 75% of the time if it is something I want bad enough I will re create it for a fraction of the price.
Then came along the Candelabra. I see it – I want it. With 2 brass $2.00 garage sale lamps, a generous girlfriend sacrificing one of her garage sale finds (an old Chandelier) for $5.00 some PVC pipe, a very loving spouse, a $3.00 metal threaded dowel, a $1.00 can of black spray paint and some patience. I got it!!
I started out with two brass lamps that I had to wheel and deal on at a garage sale that were similar to this:
I took them completely apart and tossed everything except the bases! Which I turned around and spray painted each piece black.
Next I took this lovely Chandelier and stripped the glass light fixtures off of and took it down to the bare minimums to look like this:
I then spray painted it black too!! Once all dry I (or should I say my awesome husband) took a metal threaded dowel (that he found at Lowes) and a PVC pipe cut to the desired length I wanted it, flipped the Chandelier upside down and assembled it to look like this:
Once it was all threaded together my husband took it outside and finished spray painting it for me.. Have I mentioned I married a gem? This was the outcome! It was so fun to put candles to around Halloween and I am sure I will adorn it with red & green for Christmas! I found one similar to this at a local crafters boutique for $120 OUCH!!! mine came out to be $12.00 total. Look how it turned out!
