I believe someone is taking over my goal

So remember at the first of the year when I said I was going to try all sorts of new recipes? Well I have tried ALOT of new tasty dishes but I have noticed my desire to try new recipes has been hijacked by my son Kaden. That kid has a huge desire to cook lately & I can’t keep up!

This is Kaden’s experiment and might I say it turned out rather well!
He took a regular biscuit (pillsbury type) Cut a marshmallow in half & dipped it in melted butter then coated it in cinnamon and sugar. Wrapped a biscuit around the marshmallow and put it in cupcake, muffin paper/tins then cooked them for 11 minutes on 350 degrees. VERY TASTY! He calls these breakfast vanishing rolls & believe me they vanished fast!

Kaden has made everything imaginable with peanut butter. Peanut butter rice krispy treats, peanut butter reeses cups, Peanut butter graham cracker squares, peanut butter cookies, etc. The kid LOVES peanut butter! Give him five minutes on google and he can come up with some sort of recipe.

So the other morning while making his Breakfast vanishing rolls he saw on the side of the cinnamon container a recipe for cinnamon cheesecake. Not only does Kaden LOVE peanut butter but he also loves cheesecake. He figured the cheesecake recipe was easy enough & set to work.
Here it is before it was cooked… he even made the crust on his own!!

It turned out DELICIOUS! I was REALLY impressed! Thanks Kaden

Then a few days ago Kaden decided to buy an artichoke at Wal-mart.. Yep you read that right my almost 13 year old bought an artichoke!! So how many boys his age would think to buy something like that to cook? We got the artichoke home and he decided to use google to figure out how to cook the thing. He started by clipping back the leaves and pulling away the smaller leaves to discard. Once he trimmed it back he then set it in a pan of water to steam for 25 minutes.
Well about 45 minutes later after we had gone outside to work in the yard and play as a family Maeli went inside the house and came back out telling me that the house smelled “burnt” I remembered Kaden’s artichoke… CRAP!! Yep sure enough that artichoke was no longer green but turning a nice black color. OOPS! I had forgotten about it and so had Kaden. Guess we will have to try that one again sometime!

Overall his desire to learn to cook has actually gotten me excited for his future wife!! He made spaghetti one night for us for dinner and I thought wow if he keeps this up he is going to make some girl happy someday!

The girls then got this itch that if Kaden could do it so could they but they wanted to specialize in “drinks” So they pulled out Maeli’s flavored icee mixes and offered beverages (water with icee flavoring) to each of us at their “Cafe Kiki”

They had a menu with all the beverage selections but I opted out of adding the syrup flavoring and just went for plain old water. I got it in a great 1/2 cut plastic cup with a straw that had been handled quite a bit by the girls (eww) I tried not to laugh but when Savanna told me she drank just straight icee flavoring syrup I couldn’t help it. That was one of those “That is Justin’s daughter” moments!

The girls thought that Justin and I weren’t enough customers so of course they added their “friends” (aka their dolls) to the mix..

ahh what an event even Kaden thought it was really exciting!!

I think Justin & I will hold off on letting the girls cook for a while.. just because we found too many floaties in our beverages.

Wow, Kaden is quite the cook. Those vanishing breakfast rolls really do sound delicious! So cool that he enjoys cooking. I am seriously laughing at that picture of the dolls on the stools. That is way funny. Cute kids

Could I hire Kaden to come to my house? I really need to get into some good recipes. My desire for cooking is weak! What a lucky girl to have such great kids!

  • LIFE IS GOOD!

Good for Kaden. Hmm he needs to come visit me. I have been trying alot of new receipes also. Trying to use up old food. I thought several times to start a receipe thread on your family website.

At least you let the girls be creative. Cute with the dolls

What fun!!!! I have a yummy peanut butter treat…Wait! It’s so easy, I’ll go get it…

    Okay, have Kaden try this…
1 cup brown sugar and 1 cup karo mixed together and heated to just a bubble on the stove. Take off heat and stir in 1 cup peanut butter and 6 cups corn flakes. Spread on a buttered sheet, cool, and eat. It’s good!

Abbey and Jessi are going to take a cooking class this summer…we may have some fun cooking going on at our house, too!

  • Jeralee .... Is Living It Up

That is awesome! Who knew that Kaden would enjoy cooking? I think if we can get Kaden and Charlise together to whip us something for dinner, it might turn out alright.
