Home is where your story begins…
I went through a phase of not blogging because I couldn’t ever think of things to blog about. Until someone once told me to blog about what I love. So I began blogging about my creations yes my crafts.. the one thing I love to do is craft. I always have loved it and I probably always will.
I learned how to use a scroll saw in my teens when my mom and dad patiently taught me. I was scared of the blade at first but kept trying. I am old fashioned in some ways and one of those ways is by giving gifts that come from some time, thought and effort. I do not like running to the store at the last minute to buy a gift that means nothing. My heart swells to get gifts and give gifts that I know a lot of time and effort have gone into. I am sappy over little embellishments, final touches on a holiday get together, cards in the mail, neighbor treats and of course a thought from the heart. This next project is one that really had me from the beginning. I am going to give you my disclaimer.. I AM A CRAFTING COPY CAT!! I do have ideas of my own but man when I see how creative some crafters are out there it just creates a challenge for me to create what they have. I saw this sign at a boutique over a year ago. I knew I had to have it but the price tag was $45.00 something I just couldn’t choke down. So I walked away always having it in the back of my mind. At first I didn’t believe in myself that I could actually make it but when I saw it a second time and really studied it I let go of my insecurity and realized that it was simple. Time consuming but simple
So here it goes.
I drive past Hobby Lobby every day on my way home from work and when I saw the jumbo letters in there for $1.99 a piece I knew I could somehow create this project for cheap so I would stop in every day when they had the 40% off coupon and buy one. I also got the scrapbook paper for 50% off. I decided every time they have the 40% coupons I am going to go in and buy a letter so hopefully I can make these as gifts for people throughout the year.
I took the letters home and painted the sides of them black.
We have quite a bit of lumber and bead board left over from when we built our house so I had Justin measure out the width and length of the board and cut it to size. I then told him I wanted a frame around it and he went to town out on his saw. Here is what he came up with.
I was very impressed I didn’t need that much detail!
Then I painted it all and let it sit overnight to dry. The bead board tan and the frame black. I took Scrapbook paper and traced the letters onto the back of the paper then cut the letters out. Here are the colors I used on my letters. The pictures don’t do it justice – they turned out beautiful together!
I mod podged the scrapbook paper onto the letters underneath the paper but NOT on top. Once dry I sanded down the top of the paper and the edges to give the letters a more rustic look.
Then we mounted the letters onto the bead board and nailed the frame around the board.
I then cut the vinyl out on the cricut and applied it to the wall. I need to redo the vinyl on the wall though as it is crooked!
Anyways didn’t it turn out beautiful! Although I think a button or two and maybe a small ribbon would add the perfect final touches to it!
Overall this was a $10.00 project.

Super cute!! I love it! I saw a sign in the Deseret book catalog yesterday and I really wanted it. But then I realized I could easily make it on my cricut! lol Maybe sometime soon, in all my spare time! lol

So I did it, just not on my family blog. I try to keep the crafty things on one blog and the family stuff on another! lol

I think your hand model, demonstrating the bead board, is pretty sexy. 😉 Actually I like that he helps you with the wood for the projects. You have always enjoyed crafts, but it seems lately you have really got your crafting groove back… you're on a roll! Fun!
LIFE IS GOOD!
Your just amazing. It s great you make time for the things you love

Jer – I agree he is pretty sexy! The crafting has always been fun but it makes it so much more fun when you have a spouse that encourages it, helps with it and shows true interest. Plus having a craft room that I don't have to clean up when I am done is AWESOME!
