Fluffy Old fashioned Frosting

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • ½ Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • ½ Cup Butter
  • ½ Cup Shortening
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla
Instructions
  1. Pour 1 cup of milk and ½ cup of flour into a sauce pot.
  2. Cook the milk and flour over medium to heat stirring until it forms into a paste. I thought this was a really interesting step and that the recipe included flour. I now believe this is what makes the frosting so light and fluffy. After the flour and milk has formed a paste remove from heat and let the paste cool. After the paste has cooled place it in a bowl or mixer and add 1 cup sugar, ½ cup of butter that is at room temperature, ½ cup vegetable shortening and 1 tsp. vanilla. Whip all of the ingredients together until lumps dissolve and is becomes a light and fluffy frosting.
